All right, makes it pretty simple.
Speaker 1:We've got lots to talk about. We have well election results. First of all, did you stay up? We did Up till 1, I think it was 1.15 or 1.20 when we finally went to bed. You know exhausted, but we had to stay up and watch, because that's what I do, I love to watch election results. And we stuck around. I kept watching for Martin County Star. I saw on the Secretary of State's website and kept watching for the Martin County Star numbers to drop. You know it was one o'clock 1245 to one o'clock when they finally released them. Every other surrounding county had their numbers, but not Martin County Makes me kind of wonder what's going on over there. But finally they released them and you know. So we're going to go through some of the numbers and give you you know who won, who lost. Look here, first of all, let's go in alphabetical order. All right, make it simple for me, because I'm a simple type of guy.
Speaker 1:Ceylon, ceylon. So in Ceylon, the mayor is Judith Perkins. She won over John Gibbiao Is that how you say his name, gibbiao, I don't know. Anyway, 83 to 68. And let me see the council. You can elect two. So the top two were Terry Mueller with 76 votes, tiffany Marlin with 63. Oh, this is close. Listen to this. Jody Scott had 62, and Thomas Plumhoff had 56. But Jody and Tom, they are out, and Tiffany and Terry, they are in. Wow, that's close 63-62. Gee-many, you know you're going to kick yourself for that one, aren't you? Donnell the mayor that was pretty easy had no competition. Marlon Blyzmer won with 70 votes. City Council Dean Jansen 48. And Mary Peterson 47. Wow, not their age. That's how many votes they got. Could be their age, I don't know that's how many votes they got. Could be their age, I don't know that's how many votes they got.
Speaker 1:In Grenada, the council Matt Schuster 116, and Amber Brandt 108. That was close, but they both are in because you can elect two of them. Northrop council, elect two. That's all it ran. Stephen Blaufus, stephen 105 votes and Thomas these people, where did they get their last names? Koretz 92 votes. Sherburn and Tucker Schuman really won big 409 votes. Doug Schroeder only had 138. So Tucker is a new mayor of Sherbourne or he will be in January. Council, two people Richard Bean 357, and Ronnie Beckus 284. Aaron Grice 188, and Thomas Carruthers Jr 147. So they are out. So Richard and Ronnie, they are the new council members in Sherbourne.
Speaker 1:Trimont this is interesting, joanne, we had her on like last week and she is the current mayor, but she only received 75 votes. So Kevin Gill 288, and he is a former mayor. He was, I guess, a longtime mayor, long before we ever came here, but he won with 288 votes. He really won with 288 votes. Now here's this Excuse me, this is what's interesting about Trimont. Brian Bush and let me see where's it at Bruce Bortrager. They both resigned back at the end of August, but they had already filed to run, so they went ahead and Brian, he won 191 votes. Ron Shade had 164. Bruce had 160. And then Justin was 72. Lisa, mike, everybody else was down the line. So Brian's back in if he wants it, and Ron is in Now. Ron was appointed to the city council in September so he'll keep his seat and then Bush, he can take his seat back if he so desires. That's interesting. That still leaves one seat available. One seat available we're going to have. I've heard several different theories on what's going to happen with this and I'm not at liberty right now to say, but we're going to have either somebody on or I'm going to spill the beans next week on what's going on in Tremont. Interesting Small-town politics are fun, aren't they?
Speaker 1:Truman, I don't have a winner in Truman because nobody ran for mayor. They had a lot of write-in votes but nobody ran. Howard, the council elect two. Chad had 318, and Danielle Williams with 301, so they're both on Welcome. Dan Schmittke had 230 votes over Kim Holm 163. Both Dan and Kim had ads in the paper. Looks like Dan prevailed there by what? 30, like 67 votes, so I think that's kind of resounding.
Speaker 1:On the council. You can elect two of the three who ran, and Elroy Glidden had 252 votes, john Oringer, he has 234, and Eric Anderson 150. And so, john, he's our police chief here in Tremont and John lives and welcome, and he'll be joining the city council. Eric, who's on the city council, will be leaving Anyway. So congrats to John. He came on the show. Remember he was back. He was my very first guest, as a matter of fact, and he was on the show. And what a nice guy. He has a really good outlook, so I think he'll make a fine, a fine councilman for for a welcome. Also, let me see new commissioners Billy Rabby, she, she beat out Tyler and so Billy will be taking a seat as a new Martin County commissioner representing our area. We're looking forward to having her there.
Speaker 1:You know, on the front page this week. Okay, so we went to press and we couldn't stay up for all the races. I mean, I couldn't hold the paper up that long, they wouldn't let me, so we had to go to press, so we didn't have any results. We'll put them all in, of course, next week and you can follow it there. We'll put them all in, of course, next week and you can follow it there. We'll have several others.
Speaker 1:It looks like Sherburn, though, is on track to finish the year in balance. How about that? That's always good news, isn't it, when you hear a city or a state or an organization that ends the year on balance, and so they will do excuse me, they will do that. The MCW Mark Gatty West FFA horse team ranks silver at the national competition. Wow, wow, that's great.
Speaker 1:We have a picture here of Evelyn Curtis, ellie Rose Nelson, lily Truesdale and Jocelyn Lang. They were with their award. Looks like a bunch of nice young ladies, so congratulations to each and every one of you. Also, welcome. Road Improvements Project scheduled to begin spring of 2025. It may be in jeopardy Something's going on in Welcome, and they may not make it.
Speaker 1:Anyway, all right, let me see I'm turning pages. That's what you're hearing. I'm looking through the paper. Let me see I'm turning pages. That's what you're hearing. I'm looking through the paper. Let me see Aunt Ivy had a cute what's this isn't about. Oh, okay, listen here. Aunt Ivy, dear Aunt Ivy, just a quick question.
Speaker 1:I'm engaged to be married to the most wonderful man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They all say that. His mother, however, who I love, is a bit on the pushy side. Imagine that she's a great cook and I'm just a beginner. Do I fake it? Or take cooking lessons? Or ask her to teach me? Boy, she'd love that, but I'm not sure I could spend the amount of time. Needed to learn from her. Signed my goose is cooked. I be wrote. Needed to learn from her. Signed my goose is cooked. Ivy wrote dear goose.
Speaker 1:Okay, this is a tough one. On one hand, she's going to want to come over and have dinner with you and you will be found out. If you ask her to teach you, she'll love it, but the rest of your life you'll hear about it. Taking cooking lessons was a great idea. As long as she does not find out, I have a fourth option. She said and I rewrites you find out of her son, or your soon to be husband is a cook. Let him do all the cooking, or you move about a thousand miles away. I remember when I first married and my mother-in-law was a little that way, I just put on my big girl panties, went to her and said look, I've married your son. I'm a lousy cook, but he loves me, so get over it. She never spoke to me again. Right here. I won. Okay, that's an option. Probably not the best one, but it is an option.
Speaker 1:Oh, I write some funny stuff. We've been I told you before we've been friends for like oh right, at 50 years now. I've known her most of my life and she's just like you. Hear her here, that's how she is. She's just like that. She's a lot of fun. Maybe one day I'll get her on the phone and we'll talk. That would be a lot of fun, wouldn't it? Let's see here and we'll talk. That would be a lot of fun, wouldn't it. Let's see here, page five the birth of Bereba. Page. We do have a new birth. Chase Clinton James was born October 28th. How about that? Wow, and so good-looking boy. I've got a picture of him here. He's a good-looking boy. Let's see what else.
Speaker 1:Sin Family Celebration of Life Center expands to serve the welcome Minnesota community with their second licensed location. So congratulations to Ian and the staff over there and all that they're doing. They're a nice addition to the community. Let's see here on the entertainment page. Hey, this is an interesting story.
Speaker 1:This was sent to us from Sarah Kramer. It's Paying it Forward, the Still, the Still Bar and Grill. They are giving away one dinner like for two or for a family, whatever, a week from now until March 2nd, and what you do is you. I'll just read it to you. Actually, it's easier. Here's how it works. If you know someone or a family that could benefit from this, please place your nomination in our still barrel. Winners will be drawn out every Sunday from now until March 2nd. All winners will remain anonymous If you know somebody who needs to share a meal. So that's what it's about, right there. If you have any more information, call Sarah 507-230-2787. All right, keep that in mind.
Speaker 1:We have the movie listings. We went last weekend. We went to the theater in Sherbourne and saw the Unbeatable what was it called? Shoot. Now I forgot. Anyway, it was against abortion. It was a good movie. It was a documentary really, but she did a really fine job on it and so it was interesting and kind of eye-opening.
Speaker 1:Looking here at page 7, the pet page, and there's a rabbit. It's the adopted pet of the week. The rabbit's name is Carrot An appropriate name for a rabbit, isn't it, carrot? Adoption fee is only $10. I've got a couple of rabbits in my backyard that you can have for free, so just come and grab them if you want. They're free, you can have them any time you want them. Taking care of your cat Things to consider, as the pets of the week are cats.
Speaker 1:By the way, the comics now I have them in the paper. They're in black and white, but we discovered, kind of by accident, that every page online, if you go to the online paper, every page is in color. So I left the comics in color. So when you go there, it reminds me of when I was a kid growing up. The online paper every page is in color. So I left the comics in color. So when you go there, it reminds me of when I was a kid growing up, the Sunday paper always had the comics in color and I used to really enjoy that and it kind of reminded me of that.
Speaker 1:So all the comics are in color on page what is it? Eight? Yeah, on page eight. So if you want to read them in color, go to the online paper, which is martincostarcom. All right, it's pretty simple. And if you're a subscriber already, guess what? You're also an online subscriber and you did not even know it. How about that? It's easy. Just go in and register and put in your name and your address, I think, and then it boom and clicks and it knows who you are and so you're an online subscriber automatically. That way, if you're gone, if you're out of town or something you got your paper you can still read the paper and keep up with what's going on. It's kind of nice. It's kind of nice. Page nine is classified as a public notices.
Speaker 1:Page 10 this week we moved church page from 11 to 10 this week just for the week, but it's still there. It's no big deal. And let me see Nothing new here. The title of one of the stories A man of Prayer, is the Window and Glad to be Persecuted for His Sake, is our second, our third story on that page. It's a good page. I enjoy reading the church page. I like the articles a lot. Let me see. Page 11 is local news. Has some Red Rock upcoming events. Red Rock's got a whole list of things Almost garden failure. There's a story there about your garden. Cutting spending can help boost retirement savings. Now, that's a brilliant idea. Cut spending and you will increase your retirement that's a good idea. Cut spending and you will increase your retirement that's a good idea.
Speaker 1:Christian's son on sports page runs at state cross-country meet. Let me see State meets held Saturday. Oh, it's going to run, it's going to run in class A. She came. Oh wait, here we go. She came in 84th of the time of 21 minutes 50.51 seconds. Good for her. That was close to her personal best. Good for her.
Speaker 1:I'm always happy to hear that when people push themselves. You know, I was a runner as a kid and I was never a good runner, but you know, I mean I was a runner anyway and I enjoyed it and you know it was kind of fun. Oh, here there's a sports quiz. We got to do this. We have to do this, all right, sports quiz Ready. 1987, what? Minnesota Twins third baseman became the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit home runs in his first two postseason plate appearances. Oh man, what player? I've got to look it up, I don't have a clue. It is Gary, oh, gary Gaiety. How about that? How can we forget Gary Gaiety, right? Okay, good for him. Let's see.
Speaker 1:Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo played college football. For what team? Okay, now I've got to be honest here. I am not a Cowboys quarterback.
Speaker 1:Tony Romo played college football. For what team? Okay, now I've got to be honest here. I am not a Cowboys fan, not a Cowboys fan.
Speaker 1:I did not like Tony Romo when he played. However, as a commentator I think he's really good. Yeah, I really enjoy Tony's commentating on football. I like it when he's the guy on. You know, and I'm listening to. He's very insightful. He'll tell you okay, they're going to do this and they're going to do that, and sure enough, it happens like most of the time. Anyway, what college did he go to? He went to Eastern Illinois Panthers. Well, that's really great, you know.
Speaker 1:Let's do one more. What 1986 made-for-television movie starred Vanessa Redgrave as transgender tennis player in ophthalmologist? Oh, as ophthalmologist, renee Richards. And what movie was that? Second Serve Movie called Second Serve? Never heard of it. Anyway, I guess I don't know as much about how they did.
Speaker 1:All right, so let's go back to elections for a little while. Let's talk there. So what did you think? Huh, you know, I'm not going to say anything about who I do or do not vote for. I suppose that's not a good idea, but that was exciting though.
Speaker 1:I enjoy watching the elections I always do and my candidate wins or my candidate loses. I like it better when my candidates win, but you know. But I've always enjoyed it. I've only missed one election. I forget what happened and I was sick about it because I love to go vote and you know I had an opportunity, candy and I.
Speaker 1:I like to vote on election day. I like to vote on election day. I like to do it right then I like to get my little sticker that says I voted. I like the whole process and I don't know you, can, you know, mail in your ballot while you want, that's fine, I just I like to do it, I like to go out. Then we went to breakfast. Wait, what did we do? We got up early, we went and we voted first thing in the morning and there was a steady stream of people while we were there in Tremont. And then we went to breakfast and kind of celebrated voting. You know it's America, you know that's what we do here we vote, and I think the election went well. The results came in pretty fast. They didn't have those two and three week. You know that was a bunch of nonsense four years ago, just nonsense. I have my own theories and I'll keep them to myself, but this time it seemed like things went pretty well, and so congratulations to Donald Trump. He takes another four years in office.
Speaker 1:I'm looking forward to seeing gas go down. However, here in Trimont gas is not that bad $2.80 a gallon. If you live outside of Trimont and you want some cheaper gas, that's close enough to drive, come out of here Town Center $280 for a regular unleaded and $274 for the let me see the one that's packed with ethanol. You can still put it in your car as long as you have a 2000. What is it? A 2000 or a newer car, or 2010? I forget. Anyway, my vehicles both can take it and it's $274 a gallon. So you know, always happy to do that, always happy to save money, and I can put it into retirement, right, oh, what else? Oh, I saw this. Listen to this. This is kind of interesting.
Speaker 1:Wednesday, the Faribault County Sheriff's Office released the name of the victim of a homicide in Wells on November 1st. According to the release, the victim has been identified as Miguel Angel Chavez Lopez, 54-year-old male of Albert Lee. His body was found at a rural property located in rural Wells. Okay, so that's the victim they didn't name anything about, maybe, who's done it. I guess they don't. They do not have any suspects at this time. However, he said, this is not a current threat to the public.
Speaker 1:Sounds like this was a one-time thing, maybe some sort of an argument or something. That's too bad. Hate to hear it. Hate to hear it. All right, so that's what we've got for this week. Hopefully next week we'll have somebody on from one of the races who won or lost, I don't care, and we'll bring them in and we can talk to them and find out their perspective of what went on. Otherwise, have a nice week, beautiful out today, wherever you're at, I don't have a clue, but it's sure nice here. Yesterday, don't have a clue, but it's sure nice here Yesterday, fog was dense. We picked up the paper on Wednesday mornings and that was hard to see, but we did it. You know, come rain or shine or whatever it is, we made it. So anyway, have a good week. We will talk to you next week. All right, bye, adios.
